'Intrinsic Activity', the online, open-access publication medium of APHAR, the Austrian Pharmacological Society, has offered to publish the abstracts of our Dopamine 2016 meeting. We think that this is a great opportunity to increase the visibility of Dopamine2016. Also, it will allow to archive your individual efforts and the interactions arising from this event for future research endeavors and reach out to the public. Only abstracts where authors have opted in will be published in 'Intrinsic Activity'. The abstracts whose authors have opted in have now been sent to Intrinsic Activity for processing.

We plan to have two plenary lectures each day; only the starting day will have only one plenary lecture in the evening. During an extended lunch time, we have time for poster sessions. Two parallel sessions (morning, afternoon) will consist of 4 or 5 symposia each. Each symposium consists of a 10' introduction by a chair, three speakers with 20' talk each and 5' discussion plus one selected short talk from the submitted abstracts (10' talk and 5' discussion), for a total symposium duration of 100 minutes. Furthermore, there will be coffee/tea breaks to get together and talk science as well as social events.

Symposia chair application process results

We are grateful that so many fellow-dopamine-researchers followed our call to submit symposium proposals for Dopamine 2016! We received 66 proposals and thanks to the work of the members of both our scientific advisory board and our local organizing committee, the evaluation process is now finished. It was a very close call and the overall quality of the submitted proposals was just extraordinary.

The evaluation process: We assigned an appropriate number of proposals to each of the members of both committees in a fully randomized manner and aimed for 6 to 8 reviewers in total for each proposal. We took care of conflicts of interest and performed the evaluation as follows: First, the proposals were checked for a) gender equity, b) balance of junior/senior contributions, c) geographical distribution. Every proposal received points for each category met in the proposal (0 = not met, to 2 = fully met) – and calculated a mean value. The committee members awarded points for scientific excellence (starting with 0 points up to the maximum of 5 points), again, we calculated the mean value. Next, we summed up both values, ranked the proposals according to their total score -and the first 35 proposals were accepted.
